AD- Retro Instant camera from Canal toys review
I was sent the Retro Instant camera from Canal toys for free in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Technology is ever changing and I am finding the toys in which my children are wanting are getting more and more technology based. Which in this technology driven world is no surprise. I have two children who are 7 and 8 and both are very creative children in their own way. The Retro instant camera came as a welcome addition during the summer holidays as it got them off their iPad and phone and use technology in a more creative and I would say fun way.
The photo creator retro instant camera. Is the perfect blend of nostalgic vibes with a modern twist. That has kept my two busy for hours. The retro camera is an easy to use tool that produces instant prints in seconds. This is a perfect product for a child that may enjoy scrap booking or documenting their day using pictures. My children have loved taking it out with them during the time we have been testing it taking photos for memories as they say. I am sure that the Retro camera will be in the suitcase the next time we go on holiday.
It has a large 3 inch LED screen making it so easy to see the item you are taking a photo of or even yourself when it is in selfie mode. It also has a integrated flash which can be turned on or off or put onto auto.
One of the functions my children love the most is that you can easily add on filters from funny faces to frames around your image. This aspect gave this camera another layer where they could personalise and be creative with their photos.
What’s in the box of the Retro instant Camera
- x3 thermal paper rolls
- x1 sticker roll
- 4 coloured pens
- 1 sticker sheet
- 1 instant camera
- 1 USB-C charging cable
- instruction booklet
Both my children found this so user friendly they quickly picked up how to add filters and take the photos. At the start they found it a little difficult to rip their pictures off without ripping the actual image but after some practise they soon got this. The density and resolution function was lost on my two as they were more interested in just pointing and taking the picture, However I can see for children wanting to know more about photography this would be an interesting aspect for them. The video function can only be used with a MicroSD card which we don’t have but this didn’t take away from the hours of fun had with the retro camera.
Also with the camera are some colouring pens and stickers which can be used to personalise photos. The black and white printing of the photos did spark a great conversation with my children. As this is something they had never seen before in their lifetime everything has been full off colour. So we spoke about black and white televisions and photographs and did a little search on YouTube to take a look at how things used to be.
I would also say to be aware that the pictures only print on one side of the paper so if your pictures aren’t being printed then turn the paper over. Also we found if the children pull too much on the printed picture when trying to get it off it can make the next picture not print so you have to open the paper compartment and make sure it is all in correctly.
The Photo creator can be purchased for around £69.99 from retailers such as Amazon, Very and Argos. This may seem a little pricey but the quality of this camera and the hours of fun children can have with it will really make it worth it. Looking on Amazon you can buy 10 rolls of refill paper for around £10 from many different sellers.
