All you do is play all day- yer right !!

For as long as I can remember I always wanted to work with children. I can remember being about 9 or 10 and going round my moms friends house who was a child minder and helping her with the children. So as soon as I realised college was the way to go I knew straight away what course I wanted to do. I worked my little butt of doing my BTEC in childcare and came out with a triple distinction which to this day I am still very proud of. Being newly qualified it can be hard to find a job In any sector. So I signed up to a…

Having a baby , what do I actually need to buy ?

When I found out I was having a baby i was so excited and couldn’t wait to start buying everything . When looking through articles it seemed that you needed so much and I guess you do but remember most of these things are written by big companies that sell baby products . It can be an expensive time but like most moms will tell you , most of things you buy or are told to buy you will hardly ever use . I like to think of myself as being pretty organised so once we had our 20 week scan I started to research into what we needed and…

    injection Fury !

A couple of weeks ago now I got a letter saying that I needed to take Ava for her Meningitis B injection. At the time I thought this was a little odd as I was under the impression that she had already had hers and didn’t need any more. Like everything else this letter was put on the fridge and I didn’t think about it again until today. I had been advised by my health visitor to give Ava some Calpol before having her injections. I too was a little dubious about this as how would I see if she had any reaction to the injection ?. I just did as…

    Comforters yes or no !

As you may have read in a previous post Ava has a dummy and is very comforted by it when is upset or tired. Without this Dummy I may be pulling my hair out as it soothes her very quickly and sometimes is the only thing to calm her. We are big fans of comforters !. Then recently we noticed that she would find the labels on anything and suck then . So I searched the Internet and came across the slumber sac Taggie blanket . This consists of a little blanket which has different textured labels around the outside which she loves to feel or suck . I have…

Pregnancy old wives tales true or false ??

During my pregnancy I was told so many differnt things due to old wives tales people thinking they could tell the sex of my baby and heartburn being an indicator for things but I found a lot of them to be completely untrue and after a while it does get kind of annoying people thinking they know things because of old tales. The main one I had Before we had our gender scan was. You must be having a boy as you haven’t had morning sickness and your carrying all around the front !. Well they were wrong I had a girl . The other one was your baby is…

    Pushchair pressure !

Each parent has their own budget on what they can afford when it comes to pushchairs , it may be a brand new all singing all dancing  or maybe a hand me down one that does what it needs to do . What ever pushchair you choose to buy you should make sure it works for both you and your little one . Don’t be pressured by others and influence what you go for stay within your budget !. Today me and my mom took Ava shopping and the amount of people that take a good long look at her pushchair is crazy . I even heard one mom say…

Put down the baby books !!

I remember when I was pregnant I was offered some baby and pregnancy books . Them ones that tell you what to expect , I did decline not because I didn’t want their books but just because I didn’t want any books about pregnancy and having a baby. Just the other day whilst out with Ava I heard a group of moms talking about what there little ones can and cannot do . One mom said that in the book they had it said their little one should be sitting at 6 months and there little one wasn’t . She then went on to say that do you think I…

    In the first 6 months

So much changes in the first six months of your little one life it’s crazy , there are many milestones that they will reach and many of these moments will just melt your heart watching them achieve them. You bring home your little bundles of joy and within the first few days they change. Ava would always be there eyes wide open watching the world go by taking it all in . Within a few weeks she started to sleep more at night going longer and longer between feed which was amazing . Speaking to other new moms I realised quickly how lucky we were getting between 4-5 hours between…

The cost of having a baby

When I was pregnant I remember looking  through the Internet to see how much having a baby would cost us . I found that it was suggested you needed £5,500 pounds in the bank , before you should think about having a baby. Which we didn’t have and if I’m honest I don’t know many people that do . This did start to stress me out a little as I wanted the best for our new arrival and was we going to be able to afford it !. When we started to buy things for our new arrival we found that family wanted to help us . My parents had…

Hand me down love -the realisation children dont need everything new

When we first had Ava I was adamant that I didn’t want any hand me down clothes or toys . I was under the impression that we would look like we could afford things for her if we accepted it and this was not the case. We both had full time jobs before Ava came along and Jordan works really hard to make sure we don’t go without!. So surely we didn’t need hand me down items. I soon came to realise that babies have so many presents when they are first born that you just don’t know what to do with them. As hard as I tired there was…

    What is Colic ?

So as you may have see I have recently reviewed the MAM   Anti colic bottles. So this got me thinking what is Colic exactly?. I know a lot of babies get it. You will probably hear many moms talking about it but what is colic ? So after some research I found that it hasn’t been put down to one certain factor . They suggest that its your babies immature digestive system getting used to the formular milk, trapped wind or temparary gut sensitivity.  Thankfully most children grow out of it by the age of 4 Months and at the latest 6 months. How do I know if my baby has…

    Babies just know !

I’m sure it’s not just me but Ava just knows when I’m in a rush and need to leave the house or when I want an early night cause she either does a poo explosion or just won’t settle. Babies just know how to stress you out ! Yes granted she does look very cute in this photo If I do say so myself . What was lurking underneath the clothes was not so cute . This is now a regular accurance I go to put her in the car seat to go out and the smell just hits you . Or on a really unlucky day the poo has…

Mommy guilt toward our dog Kya

As you may have read in my previous posts we have a dog called Kya . Although she is quite a big dog she is still classed as a puppy. We got Kya after we sadly lost or first puppy milo at the age of 8 months . We had Kya from 8 weeks old and she filled our life we joy straight away. She is just so loving and likes to get on you and have a big cuddle . Like most people we spoil Kya buying her nice treats and toys all the time . Even thought we know the toys will only last 5 minutes before she…

    Baby brain problems

When your pregnant if your anything like me my brain seemed to change completely . I was always really good at remembering things and retaining information . But as soon as I got pregnant that seemed to change . I would have list after list at work reminding me things that I had to do !. I found i would muddle my words up or sometimes completely forget the word I was trying to say !! ( this was one of my tell tale signs I was pregnant ). My memory now is still really bad I have to set alarms to remind me to do things . Just yesterday…

    Picking your child’s name !!

I found Being a nursery manager and working with children for many years it is so hard to pick a name for your little one !!. Certain names become less appealing to you because of one thing or another . So when we started to think of names for our baby I wanted a name that I had never looked after a child before with that name .   The other thing you have to think about is that they will have that name for the rest of there lives ( no pressure !). Some names I liked were cute for a little baby but just didn’t seem to be…

    My pre parent self

When speaking to a few of my friends that have children they said they miss their pre parent self . Going out when ever they wanted , having a drink on the weekend and not having to worry about getting up in the night or an early start with a baby . If I’m totally honest I don’t miss any of that , I have never been a big drinker and much prefer a night in with a take away than a night out on the town . I think what got us ready for being parents was our dog Kya . As she is crate trained we never went…

You know Your a parent when

I have been thinking today about how much my life has changed since Ava has come along . It’s crazy in just under 5 months how our lives have changed .I think the changes that have  happened are the changes that you know you have become a parent . First of all I cannot remember a time when I had clothes on that at some point didn’t have sick on. When I first had Ava I would change them straight away , but pretty quickly realised that there is just no point . Baby wipes have become my new best friend , what parent doesn’t freshen up their clothes with…
